The third annual Culture Days event is coming to Sechelt Sept. 29 to 30.
Culture Days is the largest-ever public participation campaign undertaken by the arts and cultural community in this country. The aim is to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities by hosting free activities across the country.
This year the District of Sechelt is taking a lead role in celebrating Culture Days on the Sunshine Coast - underscoring the valuable contribution a vibrant cultural scene makes to the economic and social prosperity of our community.
Siobhán Smith, arts co-ordinator for the District of Sechelt, has planned a fun-filled weekend with free events taking place at both the Sechelt Public Library and the Seaside Centre.
"The Sechelt Culture Days campaign aims to build awareness of how the arts enrich people's lives and contribute to the livability of the Sunshine Coast," said Smith. "Culture Days encourages an atmosphere of collaboration among community arts and culture groups, so whatever your artistic passion or cultural curiosity, you can indulge it during Sechelt's Culture Days celebrations."

A free writers workshop called writing for fun with Coast Reporter associate publisher Cathie Roy at the library Sept. 29 from 1 to 2 p.m. Join Roy for this fun and informative writing workshop. Whether you want to write the next great Canadian novel or a club newsletter you'll gain helpful tips to lead you to your success as a writer. Register in-person at the library. The Sechelt Arts Alive event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include a free volunteer management workshop at 10:30 a.m. Register by calling the Sechelt Visitor Centre at 604-885-1036 or in person at their office at the Seaside Centre. Free music and art at 1 p.m. featuring the Coast Cultural Alliance and Across the Lines CD and music demos with Steve Wright and Bruce Devereux, traditional songs and dancing by the shíshálh Nation xwamtsut group at 2 p.m. and at 3 p.m., a series of short films presented by the Coast Organizing Against Racism and Hate Initiative.
