Encourage kids to gobble up some great reading this summer.
Children will Savour Each Word when they join the 2011 Summer Reading Club for free at the Sechelt Public Library.
Kids can sign up at the library starting on June 21 and receive a fabulous free reading record and bookmark, as well as collect weekly stickers. Check out the library for fun free programs, contests and displays all summer. Kids who complete their reading record will be eligible to receive a special Summer Reading Club medal.
Regular reading during the summer helps kids maintain or even improve their reading and literacy skills, and studies show that voluntary reading is the number one factor in establishing good reading habits. The Summer Reading Club makes reading fun and the expert staff at the library can help kids find just the right book or magazine from among a wide variety of library materials. The program for children ages five (must have completed kindergarten) to 10 will be held on Thursdays, June 30 to Aug. 11. Special guests Graham Walker and Gerardo Avila will perform.
New this summer is a book club for teens ages 11 to 14 on Tuesdays, July 5 to Aug. 9, called fun, food and great books. Early registration will begin on June 21.
Summer Reading Club is sponsored by the B.C. Library Association with funding assistance from the Public Library Services Branch, Ministry of Education.
