Francophone teachers from école du Pacifique and Chatelech Secondary spent their professional development day learning the challenges and joys of weaving local cedar bark into fine hats under the expert guidance of master salish weaver Jessica Silvey Casey. Cultural awareness is a key component at all levels of K-12 and in all subjects of the new curriculum, which becomes mandatory in September 2016 for K-9 and in September 2017 for Grades 10-12. Cultural appreciation and knowledge is also a key to reconciliation.
