At the recent Canadian Power & Sail Squadron conference in Burnaby, Sunshine Coast commander Jack Adams (centre) received the award for best membership performance from national chair Joe Gatfield (left) and Pacific Mainland Division director Guy Cooper.

In the midst of the boating season, the Sunshine Coast Squadron is preparing its boating safety education activities for the remainder of 2015. Starting on Sea Cavalcade Saturday, volunteer members will again offer its Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks at Gibsons Marina, as well as provide safety patrol vessels for the Keats Island swim on Sunday if requested.

New courses will start Oct. 17 with the Boating Basics for the Pleasure Craft Operator Card, followed by Boating Essentials to qualify for the many benefits of squadron membership, and Maritime Radio for the VHF certificate. Course details and registration are on the national website www.boatingcourses.ca, listed under the course venues of Roberts Creek or Sechelt.

The Sunshine Coast squadron has 140 members and its volunteers carry out safe boating educational services in Gibsons and Sechelt in co-operation with Gibsons Yacht Club and other boating organizations.
