Roberts Creek Cohousing members gathered to paint stone mandalas as a fundraiser for Ukrainian refugees set to arrive on the Sunshine Coast later this month.

Members of Roberts Creek Cohousing gathered recently to make Dot Stone Mandalas and to contribute to a fundraiser for the Supporting Ukrainian Refugees Project.

As a bonus to having a good time learning how to make the mandalas while also raising money, everyone took home a beautiful original mandala to enjoy. The oldest participant was aged 88, and the youngest was four.

Together, $1,650 was raised, some from those who had painted a Dot Stone Mandala, and some from others who couldn’t be there but who wanted to support the worthy cause.

The money raised was donated to Spirit Dance Centre, a local Canadian registered charity on the Coast. Spirit Dance Centre, as part of Supporting Ukrainian Refugees Project, is sponsoring seven families and one single woman to come to live on the Sunshine Coast. The first family arrives on May 11.

Judy Rother, the organizer of the program has indicated that the families will be needing significant help with resettlement costs. One hundred per cent of the donated funds go directly to this end.

If you’re interested in donating or learning more about the program, please email Judy Rother housing4ukraine@gmail.com  A donation receipt will be issued.
