The First Elphinstone Rangers (Girl Guides) have been working hard at fundraising since October 2010 and will continuing doing so until March 2012, culminating in an international trip to the Hawaiian Island of Kauai to celebrate the U.S. 100thanniversary of Guiding and Scouting.

The seven girls and three leaders have sold cookies, are having an ongoing bottle drive, hosted a fashion show, sold hot dogs at a soccer tournament and at IGA, held a garage sale and assisted at the FYI yearly sale event.

The Rangers also assist with community service projects such as helping the Lions at the drag races and will be building a storage shed at Camp Olave next month.

If people have non-ferrous items (copper, brass, aluminum, car batteries) that they would like to donate for recycling, they could call the Rangers, who will arrange for pick up and take to Bypass Auto Recycling.

Future plans include a silent auction in September, more bottle drives and serving and cleaning at a family reunion. The Rangers would be happy for any suggestions or opportunities.

In Kauai the Rangers are planning events ranging from tubing through a jungle, kayaking the Wailua River, zip lining (if the leaders have the nerve), assisting at the local SPCA and volunteering at the National Tropical Botanical Garden.

If you would like to contact the Rangers about fundraising, you can call Lisa Baker at 604-885-3373.
