Raising funds through on-line competition

YMCA Camp Elphinstone is hoping to raise $150,000 for a new fully accessible lodge through the Aviva Community Fund Competition.

YMCA Camp Elphinstone is hoping to raise $150,000 for a new fully accessible lodge through the Aviva Community Fund Competition.

Through on-line voting, non-profit endeavours like YMCA Camp Elphinstone are able to win prizes to fulfill their social projects through Aviva Insurance's annual contest.

"Every kid, regardless of ability, deserves the chance to experience everything that camp has to offer," said Lisa Stiver, general manager of YMCA Camps. "That's why we are building five new fully accessible lodges so that kids with disabilities can come to camp."

YMCA Camp Elphinstone is the only camp in western Canada that provides fully integrated programming for kids with disabilities at no extra cost to families. "Children with disabilities want to attend camp with their best friend from school, regardless of their medical status, rather than attending a separate specialized camp for kids with disabilities," adds Stiver. "We work with every family to create a custom camp experience so that each child's unique special needs are met."

YMCA Camp Elphinstone provides camp for kids ages three to 18 and offers dozens of activities like sailing, high ropes, archery and canoeing, all while teaching kids leadership lessons to help them learn new skills and grow in confidence.

The first round of voting runs from now until Oct. 19 and allows people to vote once per day.
