Harbourside Friendships Thursdays drop-in social program runs 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch is served at noon in the PH Community Hall. Aug. 7, join in a summertime treat, a BBQ at Lions Park. Weekly activities hosted by Seniors Initiative this month: carpet bowling Wednesdays, Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27 at the PH Community Hall 1 to 3 p.m., cost $3. Chair Yoga Mondays and Fridays Aug. 1, 8, 11, 15, 18, 22, 25 and 29 at the PH Community Hall 11 a.m. to noon with Carole Logtenberg or Kristin Tracey, cost $3 –– improve your balance, strength and flexibility with gentle moves. Chair Yoga Wednesdays Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27 at the Sarah Wray Hall 11 a.m. to noon with Carole Logtenberg or Kristin Tracey, cost $3.

Next weekend has endless enjoyment. Here are the details so you can plan now:

The 10th Annual Pender Harbour Wooden Boat Show community boat parade will muster Friday, Aug. 8, at 5 p.m. at the harbour in Madeira Park and set sail at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10 a.m., you can visit the boats at the marina and on land and tour our vendors. The kids’ activities will be set up in the amphitheatre. Heritage lovers meet at the Music School at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday to listen to Martin Swan retrace his father’s 1964 voyage to Kimsquit –– he has the photos. Witness the changes to our Harbour! At 1 p.m., Isaac Vanderhorst brings us another amazing presentation –– Cape Horners of the Sunshine Coast, including archival film. Please bring a chair or blanket to the lawn at the marina to listen to local music. On Saturday, Stephan Lacasse plays at 10 a.m., followed by Sean Peters at noon and Matt Richards at 2 p.m. Sunday starts off with the marine garage sale, more vendors and more music –– Rebecca and Jeremy take the stage at 10 a.m. followed by Joe Stanton at noon and Los Dos at 2 p.m.

On Sunday, Bill Noon returns to the PHWBS to share The Future of History project where the Steamship Building in Victoria Harbour would be re-imagined as a maritime museum –– come to learn. Remember to enter the salmon raffle and the raffle for the magnificent “Redwood” canoe.

A short walk from the Wooden Boat Show site on Sunday, Aug. 10, the Rotary Club of Pender Harbour’s 20th Annual Show & Shine takes place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 112 in Madeira Park. This People’s Choice Car Show puts you in the driver’s seat — you vote for the winners! Bring the whole family and enjoy a spectacular display of cars, trucks and motorcycles on a beautiful grassy field. Live music, tasty food, 50/50 draw and the Legion’s famous Meat Draw at 3 p.m.! Event details: registration at 9:30 a.m. ($30 entry fee), showtime at 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ballot cut-off at 2 p.m. Info line: 604-989-7811.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch #112 will host its annual golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 16, starting at 2 p.m. The playing format is a modified Texas Scramble. Entry is $75 per person, which includes golf, appies, dinner and prizes. Everyone receives a prize! Registrations are accepted at the Legion.
