On Thursday, Aug. 16 approximately 1,500 people attended a free community event at Hackett Park to raise money for Sunshine Coast KidSport Chapter.

A total of $6,600 was raised to directly support Sunshine Coast KidSport when Sunshine Coast Credit Union and MarketPlace IGA teamed up to bring a free outdoor family movie night to Coast residents.

This was the second annual Great Outdoor Movie Event, complete with a three-storey inflatable screen, featuring Dr. Seuss' The Lorax. Guests were invited to come early and enjoy an evening of fun for all ages. Admission was free and Food Bank donations were collected at the entrance.

The evening offered a barbecue concession manned by the Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast, cotton candy, popcorn, with KidsZone activities including a bouncy castle, sumo wrestling, crafts, and face painting. Raffle tickets were sold and prizes were drawn prior to the movie.

Kaylin Schober was the winner of the Sunshine Coast Credit Union and MarketPlace IGA summer video contest. This 11-year old girl created an amazing video about how Sunshine Coast Credit Union and local IGAs have helped "build" and continue to support the Sunshine Coast community over a long history. Kaylin was presented with a $500 savings account and the audience viewed the video prior to the start of The Lorax.

"Partnering once again with Sunshine Coast Credit Union and MarketPlace IGA to support the youth in our community just made sense," said KidSport co-chair Diane Wagner. "These organizations are all about giving back to their communities and this event will now allow at least 45 children to take part in a sport of their choice. "These are kids who wouldn't have had the opportunity to participate, so thank you to everyone who came out, enjoyed the evening and donated to KidSport."
