“All in all a great success” was how Lesley Roberts of Eco-Freako characterized the first meet-up of the newly-minted Roberts Creek Business Promotions committee last Thursday. Lots of energy and ideas, Roberts said. The first step will be to repaint the Roberts Creek sign on the highway and add a solar light (already offered at cost). Thanks to Joe at the Gumboot Café for the venue and to Chris Hergesheimer of the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Organization (SCREDO) for support. To join, contact [email protected]. Ideas are welcome.
The Roberts Creek Directory of Everything 2018-2019 which lists, well, everything -- businesses, artists, community organizations, farms, food establishments – was in Roberts Creek mailboxes last Friday. A great resource.
The last meeting until September of the RC Official Community Plan Committee (OCPC) will be this Tuesday, June 12 at 7 p.m. in the library of Roberts Creek Elementary. Residents are welcome to attend says chair John Gibbs. On the agenda will be a discussion of a forest resources referral board for Roberts Creek, an idea whose time has come. The board will consist of RC residents who will provide informed engagement with the Sunshine Coast Community Forest (owned and logged by Sechelt) and B.C. Timber Sales (in charge of logging on provincially owned cut blocks on Mt. Elphinstone). Recent OCPC discussions have included the coming marijuana legalization and various rezonings. While not bound by OCPC resolutions, the Sunshine Coast Regional District accepts referrals either directly through SCRD planners or Roberts Creek representative Mark Lebbell.
The Roberts Creek community library will offer extended hours from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays beginning June 24, the first Slow Sunday, which musically celebrates summer at the gazebo.
Space in the community library can also be rented by groups or organizations on a one-time or ongoing basis. Further information (cost and available times) is at the library.
Also, a reminder from library volunteers to look under beds and car seats for those books (especially kids’ books) that should have been returned to the library a while back. Library books – late or not – can also be returned at the RC General Store when the library is closed.
