Roberts Creek now has its own food truck. You’ll find the Nomadic Kitchen parked outside the Hall Fridays to Mondays throughout the summer. On the menu are such items as shrimp ceviche tacos and bulgogi lettuce wraps. Burgers and vegetarian burgers are also offered. Owner Katija says ingredients are “sourced fresh and as directly as possible from neighbouring farmers, foragers and artisans.” See www.thenomadickitchen.ca.
The truck will join long time Roberts Creek Hall offerings by Perogies Galore, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (604-989-2792) and Curry in the Creek on Thursdays (order before Thursday at 604-828-4086).
Chair Julie Gleadow of Sunshine Coast Grandmothers and Grandothers reports that their Royal Wedding Tea at Pebbles Restaurant last Saturday was a “fascinator” success. More than 60 people attended, “dressed to the nines.” If the Royals aren’t your cup of tea, the Grandmothers and Grandothers are holding a Father’s Day home-made pie sale at Sunnycrest Mall on Saturday, June 16. The proceeds from their many activities on the Sunshine Coast go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which supports the work of African grandmothers caring for a generation of children orphaned by AIDS. The group of men and women meets in Roberts Creek on the first Monday of the month from September to June at 10:30 a.m. For details, contact [email protected] or Julie Gleadow, 604-741-5664. New members are welcome.
Slow Sundays will begin Sunday, June 24, from noon until 4 p.m. at the gazebo behind the Roberts Creek community library. Preparations are underway and volunteers are needed throughout the summer. Contact Ed Lands at [email protected].
Also beginning June 24 and throughout the summer, the RC community library’s Sunday hours will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A mural facing the gazebo on the outside back wall of the library is planned for this summer. Erica Snowlake will lead the project, which will involve First Nations.
A reminder that online registration for girls on the Sunshine Coast new to Girl Guides is Monday, June 11. This organization offers many fun and worthwhile activities to girls beginning with Sparks (ages 5 and 6) to Rangers (ages 15 to 17).
A reminder from Don Van Kleek (who taught for 35 years at Cedar Grove and Roberts Creek Elementary) that he is still collecting family stories for the Roberts Creek Family History Book. You’ll find a binder of the stories in the RC community library. He says leave photos and your handwritten family story with the library volunteers and he’ll do the editing and typing. You can also contact him at 604-886-7424.
