Graham Starsage, organizer of this year’s Earth Day writes: “Thank you for helping throw one of the best Earth Day events ever!
“Easily it was the event with the greatest attendance in our 29-year history. I estimated 2,000 during the course of the day. There were approximately 100 people who used the SCRD musical shuttle buses and the bike repair team fixed 36 bikes! We had over 55 organizations participate and at least 100 volunteers. It takes every amazing individual to make our community the vibrant and excellent place it is to live. Let every day be Earth Day.”
Also a special thanks from Community School organizer Sheila Wilson who writes: “We are pleased to have the SCRD building permit for our outdoor pavilion now on file and in process. A huge thanks to Will Richardson and Dale Allenback of Sunco Civil Engineering, who combined efforts to engineer and certify the design of the pavilion. Thanks to all of the recent volunteer work and donations, including the promise of crusher dust from Elpinstone Aggregates. We are so grateful to receive sufficient cedar logs for post and ample cedar board for the living roof decking from Beach Avenue residents Don and Marguerite McGregor.
“We hope to begin building this month and will be looking for skilled and unskilled volunteers. We are currently looking for a dump truck to deliver two loads of crusher dust and are in need of wood chips for the garden beds (to add to Fleming Tree Expert offer) and paths. We are also trying to find living roof materials: pond liner, filter cloth, a drain layer and suitable soil. If you have any of the above, if you would like to be on our mailing/volunteer list, or if you are in a position to financially support the garden, please contact Sheila Wilson at [email protected]. Thank you all for your support!”
