On your marks, get set, go

It's springtime and kids are popping up outdoors like early blooms after the rainy season.

It's springtime and kids are popping up outdoors like early blooms after the rainy season. What better way to release the bounce in their steps than to bring them to Mission Point Park for the April Fool's Run this Sunday, April 7 for the second annual Sunshine Care Network Kids' Jester Dash.

Entrants must be seven years of age or younger. Start time is 11 a.m., with two activity tents of crafts, face painting and music guided by nannies from Sunshine Care Network on hand before the race.

There are dozens of local sponsors, with Pastimes giving an age-appropriate toy to every child on the track, and BMO handing out piggybanks. Young runners can muster the 400 metre-long course with parents or all on their own steam, bound to have sideliners cheering them on.

It's a fun family outing and teaches kids, early on, to learn about exercise and participation in community events. Only the first 40 registered get into the mix, so sign-ups should get a move on! For more information, go to www.foolsrun.com.
