Obituary: William C. Holtz

'A gifted woodcarver, a keen reader and an engaging storyteller, Dad turned every situation into an opportunity to learn and to teach. When failing eyesight restricted his life, taking away his ability to carve, to read, to write, even to live on his own, it only made him more determined to face the adversities and find solutions.'

May 23, 1932 - November 24, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our remarkable father on November 24, 2022. Dad has left this earth to be with his best friend and soulmate Sheila. They shared many happy and fulfilling years together, especially building and living in their timber home on Thormanby Island.

Dad was curious, adventurous, bold, wise, funny, generous, ambitious and resilient.....and maybe a bit stubborn and opinionated!

A gifted woodcarver, a keen reader and an engaging storyteller, Dad turned every situation into an opportunity to learn and to teach. When failing eyesight restricted his life, taking away his ability to carve, to read, to write, even to live on his own, it only made him more determined to face the adversities and find solutions.

Dad altered the trajectory of the lives of many, both family and friends. We were all so lucky to have him our lives and take comfort in knowing that he died as he lived, on his own terms.

He leaves behind his four children, Eric (Wendy), Bill Jr. (Errin), Jane (Alick) and Matthew (Carolyn), sister Marian (Ken) plus 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Huge thanks to friends Polly and Myra who helped him ride through the rough times and laugh through the good times. Also thanks to Viveca for the memoires....and friendship.

A celebration of Dad's life will be announced at a later date, when the days are a little bit longer and a little bit brighter.
