Obituary: Helen Jeanette Morneau (Malyea)

Helen was born October 22, 1941 in Pender Harbour, and passed away at the age of 82 on March 20, 2023 in Victoria, BC.

Predeceased by husband Richard O’Brien (August 1980), father Roy Malyea (July 28, 1971), mother Flore Malyea (Sept. 18, 1982) and older sister Louise (June 16, 2000).

Left to mourn are Patrick, Wendy, Sheila O’Brien and husband Denis Morneau, stepsons Jason and Scott, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, in-laws, and brothers Patrick (Cindy) and James Malyea.

Helen worked at Powell River Hospital as a dietician, and in Port McNeil, BC and Victoria, BC as a Special Needs teacher.

She had attended Gibsons Elementary and Elphinstone High School.

Helen was involved with grass hockey, teen town dances, stock car races, music, golf, quilting, cooking, Alanon, fishing, and little league baseball.

Helen was fair, honest and a no-nonsense person who went a long way out of her way to help others. Helen was a victim of car accidents from which she never fully recovered, yet she still retained her dignity and sense of humour to the end.

Family will gather at a later date.
