Obituary: Heinz Werner Heyer

'Your personality was larger than life. This is just a pause in our next big adventure.'

It is with great sadness that the family of Heinz Werner Heyer announces his passing May 12, 2023. Born in Germany July 13, 1941, he immigrated to Canada in his early 20’s. A machinist by trade, Heinz was a sign maker (Techcom Design) when he moved to the Sunshine Coast 30 years ago. At an early age he developed a love for model railroading, which was a passion he kept all his life.

Heinz is survived by his wife, Judy, his daughter, Kelly Chiatto (Rob) of Kelowna, and three grandchildren, Sabrina Chiatto (Vancouver), Austin Chiatto (Surrey), Gabriel Chiatto (Calgary); and mother-in-law, Elfriede Boras (Sechelt).

A special thank you to Dr. Wadge and the caring ACU staff at Sechelt Hospital, as well as Palliative Care, and Hospice. You treated Heinz so well. And as for his many railroad friends, what can I say? You surrounded him with love and kindness and kept his spirits up. He couldn’t have managed without you, and neither could I. You used to read the obits and were always glad when you didn’t see your name. Well, my love, this time you’re there, and what a huge hole you left that will never be filled. So, my dear, this isn’t goodbye. Your personality was larger than life. This is just a pause in our next big adventure.

A celebration of life will be held June 25.
