CanaDares holds its major fundraiser Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club. Founded by local resident Lynda Kearns, the non-profit depends upon this event as its main source of support for a shelter in Tanzania. Built to house abandoned street children in Dar-Es-Salaam, CanaDares opens its doors to orphans, some of whom have never had a home before. The solid, spare building offers food, shelter and a stable base from which the children are then allowed to register for school. Their need is great, as is their gratitude.
Sept. 18 affords the Coast an opportunity to continue their support of this worthy Canadian initiative, with 11-hole golf at 12:30 p.m. A silent auction opens at 4 p.m., boasting everything from gift baskets to a significant African sculpture donated by Granville Island’s Ukama Gallery. CBC’s Sheryl McKay guest hosts the dinner, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets ($120 golf/dinner, $80 dinner/tax receipt for a portion) are available at www.canadares.ca or by contacting Marc at 604-740-1866 or Birgit at 778-245-8321.
