The Grade 1 & 2 class of Langdale Elementary School moved their classroom to spend a week at the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives to learn about the history of their community. Teacher Ann Chow celebrated the 10th year of Museum School, inviting community people to teach about their jobs and the roles they play as important members of the community.
With two floors of displays and exhibits, the students drew and wrote about the artifacts in journals. Museum School started the week with the tour of a parlour, a bedroom and a kitchen from the past. This was followed by a visit to Gibsons’ first doctor’s house, which is The Stonehurst located in lower Gibsons.
Contributing to the Museum School’s success with amazing presentations were museum curator Matthew Lovegrove, Stonehurst owner Bill Sluis, Clint and Irene Davy of Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, paramedics Sheree and Regan Hadu, Ranger Marina Stjpovic, dental hygenist Mary Bland, breadmaker Madeline Makenzie, drama teacher Melanie Robinson and postmaster Tara.
