Gibsons resident and community volunteer Donna McMahon has won the British Columbia Trustees Association Super Trustee Award.

The Super Trustee Award recognizes members of public library boards who have contributed outstanding service in the development of their libraries. The announcement was made at the annual BC Library Conference in Richmond on May 11.

McMahon is the former chair of the Gibsons Public Library. During her eight years of membership on the board, she leveraged her extensive contacts with local governments, non-profit organizations, and other libraries to cultivate the library into a beloved community hub and the lower Sunshine Coast's most-used public facility.

She led the search for a new chief librarian, while assisting staff to manage the library without a chief librarian for many months. She proved to be powerful advocate for her library during budget meetings and elections, persuading the regional district to upgrade the library building, implement an on-going maintenance plan, and even install windows that open!
