Compassionate Friends are hosting a candle-lighting ceremony for bereaved parents, Tuesday, Dec. 8, 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Bereaved mothers, fathers and siblings are invited to join with other bereaved families in remembering our children at a candlelight gathering. This is an opportunity to recognize and ritualize the pain we feel as the world around us becomes festive with preparation for the holiday season. Candles will be provided and can be taken home to light in remembrance over the holidays. We will have small stars to hang on a tree but if you wish to bring a special ornament to hang on the tree, please do. You are also welcome to bring a picture of your child or children to be displayed on the remembrance table.
Feel free to bring private written thoughts or messages to place in a special Burden Basket. The messages will later be offered up in a bonfire. We hope this ritual will be meaningful and help to unburden some of your sorrow.
If you are unable to attend the Dec. 8 candlelight ceremony but would like a candle lit in memory of your child, please call Judy at 604-886-7334 by Dec. 7 and your child’s name will be read out.
Following the service, all are invited to stay for tea, juice and goodies. This is an excellent time to talk with other bereaved parents in an informal way.
The event will be held at Kirkland Centre, 4602 Simpkins Rd. in Davis Bay. For information, call 604-886-7334.
