After much community support in February of 2020, Lily Riggs came home in March 2020 with a silver medal from Canadian Nationals Powerlifting Competition in Ottawa.

Now, after a long training period on her own during COVID-19, she has emerged from her first Western Canadian Powerlifting Championships a champion.

She took silver again in the 72kg weight category. On Nov. 13 at the Richmond Oval, she completed all nine of her lifts, setting personal records in all three events and two B.C. records in both squat and deadlift. Her final lifts in each category were: squat, 352 lbs. Bench, 176lbs. Deadlift, 391lbs.

Her coach, Cole Thevenot of Blacksmith Fitness in Coquitlam, was on hand to support her as well as several of her friends and family in the stands cheering her on.

Next up are Canadian Nationals in St. John’s, NL set for March. Good luck, Lily!
