Former Sunshine Coast ElderCollege board member and program committee chair Laurean Reid has been honoured with the prestigious award of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.
ElderCollege nominated Reid for the medal and the nomination was endorsed by the Sunshine Coast Association for Community Living (SCACL) based on Reid’s long and dedicated volunteer work for both organizations. In fact, her volunteer work over four decades extends well beyond those two organizations.
The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers “recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country.”
The medal is an official Canadian honour created by the Crown, and as such, is part of the Canadian honours system administered by the Chancellery of Honours, part of the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General. The medal design was created by the Canadian Heraldic Authority and the medal is manufactured by the Royal Canadian Mint.
