Kettle campaign kicks off

Salvation Army

Pastor of the Sunshine Coast Salvation Army, Major Dale Sobool, and his wife Major Jo Sobool, with Sechelt Mayor Bruce Milne were at the kick off for the annual kettle campaign at Trail Bay Mall on Nov. 21.

“I’m here to support the Salvation Army because they do such good work in the community, and always have,” Milne said. “It’s really important to remember that all of the donations – up and down the Coast – will stay right on the Coast.”

Jo Sobool said that their goal is to raise $60,000 through the kettle campaign for those on the Coast who are in need – as well as an additional $60,000 from their letter campaign. The Salvation Army sent out letters this week asking people to make a donation through the mail.

“It’s just a different way to help raise funds,” Sobool said.

“It helps those who are in need, so someone who needs some clothes or furniture, they can come to the Salvation Army and we are able to help them,” Sobool said. “We also provide a food bank that runs every day, Monday to Friday.”

The kettle campaign runs from Nov. 21 to Dec. 24. People seeking aid can find the Salvation Army’s office in Gibsons at 682 Gibsons Way, or visit the thrift store in Sechelt at 5698 Cowrie St.
