Pilgrimage as travel with a spiritual purpose is a major theme in the stories of many faith traditions. Whether we travel or not, pilgrimage also has the potential of becoming a "lived metaphor" that opens us in times of change to embrace God's transforming work in ourselves and our faith communities. McNaughton and Hobbs will use Scripture and two ancient tales from Britain and Ireland to launch exploration of the place of pilgrimage in our personal and communal faith journeys. Their workshop will also include singing and several forms of play.

McNaughton is an Anglican priest, and since 2011 archdeacon of North Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast. After teaching Christian spirituality at Vancouver School of Theology for 13 years, she is now priest of St. Clement's in North Vancouver. Hobbs is emeritus professor of church history and music, also at Vancouver School of Theology, and minister of music at University Hill United, Vancouver. Since 1997, McNaughton and Hobbs have led spiritual heritage pilgrimages in Europe.

The pilgrimage workshop will be held at St. John's United Church the evening of Jan. 13 and all day Jan. 14. The event is open to the public; there is a $25 fee to cover costs. For more information and to register, call 604-885-9822 or email the church office at [email protected].
