It’s time to celebrate the harvest! The Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden welcomes locals to participate in picking season this Labour Day Sunday.

On Labour Day Sunday, the place for festive family fun is the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden’s annual Harvest Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 5941 Mason Road, Sechelt.

Sept. 4, participants will take in a variety of hands-on fun: Demonstrations, plant and garlic bulb sales, baking and preserves and so much more. DJ little d will spin the tunes, and we’re thrilled to welcome some new participants this year. Admission is by donation and well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome to join in.

There will be a children’s craft in the Picnic & Play area, plus all-U-can-pick blackberries (bring your own bucket!). Tour the extremely productive Vegetable Garden and see what’s growing for the food bank. Ask the master gardeners and Vegetable Garden volunteers your questions about growing. View the surface of the sun through the Astronomy Club’s special telescopes, see the woodcrafters’ skilled creations, learn about the good works of Elder Dog Sunshine Coast or watch the spinners and weavers work their magic.

Lunch is by the Lions Club, our volunteer bakers have stocked our bake sale, our potting team has a huge selection of plants for your fall garden, both the Sunshine Coast Bear Alliance and the St. John Therapy Dog Program will be answering questions.

Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden is open Friday to Wednesday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the summer. Admission is by donation. Members enjoy unlimited visits plus many extra perks. For information about membership, events or rentals, visit www.coastbotanicalgarden.org.
