Gumboot Nation: It’s beginning to look a lot like...

And Roberts Creek’s new Royal Society of Canada fellow

Okay, about last week, Tuesday was actually quite nice. And the gas rationing? The joke is on them; Roberts Creek doesn’t even have a gas station!

The return of the RCCA Annual Christmas Craft Fair is upon us! Nov. 26 to 28, the Roberts Creek Community Hall is chock full of local artisans offering hand-crafted wares and goodies. Admission is $2 with door prizes and a gift basket raffle. Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please have proof of vaccination and masks for entry. Get out and support your community in a fun, retail therapy kind of way.

Save the date: Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children will have a few minutes of Santa’s undivided attention. Book time for your child at bookedin.com/book/rcca-1. Five dollars gets five minutes of one-on-one chat time with Santa.

On the Saturday before Christmas, Roberts Creek Community Association, Roberts Creek Masons and our local grocers are supporting a virtual Christmas style dinner available for pickup. Sign up forms available at Roberts Creek store.

I have heard that if you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room. Although I have been in the same room with Bob, most of our interaction happens at the end of my driveway, as he lives up the hill and will always stop for a chat. Robert Hogg, professor and associate dean of research in the SFU Faculty of Health Sciences and senior research fellow at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) for 2021. Attaining a fellowship in the RSC is Canada’s highest academic honour, congratulations my friend!

Things happening at the #219: Jazz Thursdays are in full swing, and The Sofa Kings play Roberts Creek Legion, Friday, Nov. 26 8 p.m. to close. It’s $8 for members, $12 for guests of members. The food is as great as the friendships the place nurtures.

Also at the Legion, join Rogue Fest this Sunday, Nov. 28, noon to 2 p.m. to clean out the fridge, learn, play games, and eat together in a food waste reduction workshop for everyone! “Waste Not” is about making positive impacts on our food system with a few small, and fun, changes to how we manage food at home. From a group discussion on food waste to hands-on activities, everyone will learn easy strategies to keep food in its prime. I was told there will be snacks during the wrap-up discussion (provided by Good Acre Market). This workshop is kid-friendly and children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Book your spot at roguefest.ca/rogue-fest-winter-series. The Roberts Creek Legion requires proof of vaccination upon entry and will follow the most updated provincial health outlines for this event.

Vancouver legend Matt Fiorito is coming to town Dec. 4 to celebrate his birthday at the #219 by doing what he loves, playing in THREE BANDS in one night! (He plays in more than three though) Motorama, Legion of Goons, Blacksmith & Brewer, 3 Sixes, plus a DJ! Don’t miss it!
