The Rotary Club of Pender Harbour is pleased to host the 12th annual Pender Harbour Show and Shine, which will be held Sunday, Aug. 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Garden Bay Pub and neighbouring grounds. Make a day of it and come see old and new cars and motorcycles restored to classic and custom condition. There will be a Rotary barbecue and full meals available at the Garden Bay Pub and Restaurant with music from 2 to 6 p.m. with the Nigel Mack Band. Trophies will be awarded to best in categories based on the public’s balloting. Support for this event will help Rotary with their youth and community programmes for Pender Harbour.
As part of the event, artists, crafters, and other non-food vendors are invited to set up at the Alley of the Arts, for only $10. You’ll have to supply your own table and display fixtures, but it’s a great deal for this high-traffic event right beside Garden Bay Pub. The volunteers of the Pender Food Bank and the recipients of it would like to send armloads of thanks to the people who donated monetarily, gave produce, filled the food boxes at IGA and Oak Tree and gave in many other ways.
Get out and enjoy the magnificent beauty of the Coast with the PH Hiking Group, Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m., for longer, faster-paced hiking (call Maureen 604-883-2930) or with the Ramblers on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. for a slower pace (call Val 604-883-1191).
Families and visitors are invited to drop-in outdoor volleyball or basketball on Monday nights at the MPES field from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bring a picnic if you like or just sit and enjoy watching. Younger kids can play at the park or in the playground. Let’s make this a great weekly event!
Come enjoy carpet bowling at the PHC Hall on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Summer drop-in pickleball is at PHHS gym on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Come out for a night of bingo fun and a chance to win cash prizes at the Community Hall on Thursday nights at 7 p.m.
Harbourside Friendship is Thursday, Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. with a music performance by Evan and Friends. Lunch is served at noon for $10.
It’s time to sign up for the Legion’s annual golf tournament Aug. 22. You don’t need a foursome; just come out and have a good time and good food and win some great prizes. Forms are available at the Legion and PH Golf Club, or call 604-883-2235. Enjoy a classic soup and sandwich lunch each Wednesday and Thursday in air-conditioned comfort or on the patio. On Wednesdays, have a cheap beer, available all day with lunch or the wings special after 4 p.m.
The Pender Harbour Community Club Youth Group will run the last two Fridays of the month in August. Events for younger youth from 3 to 5 p.m., drop in from 5 to 7 p.m., and older youth from 7 to 10 p.m. Please contact Tess at 604-883-0024.
