Harbour/Egmont Highlights

Pender Harbour & Egmont

Madeira Market is back! Come to the Madeira Market every Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the summer under the shady trees beside Triple BBB Burgers. You will find a bounty of local produce, baking, preserves, art, jewels and beautifully crafted treasures, new and different each week, always at such amazing prices.

Egmont and District Volunteer Fire Department is holding a garage sale on July 25 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to raise money for a new compressed air foam fire pump. Donations of viable sale items will be gratefully accepted (tools and parts are best), as well as monetary donations. The CAF pump will greatly enhance the ability to fight fires in hard to reach situations. Donations can be dropped with Kal Helyar at 604-740-1400, or Annette Sheppard at 604-741-7250.

Get out of the heat and into the meat at the Legion’s meat draws every Saturday starting at 3 p.m. and Sundays starting at 1 p.m. Tonight’s Friday night dinner special is pork kebobs, potato salad, Greek salad and garlic toast, the perfect summer meal. Bring the whole family!

The Pender Harbour Community Club Youth Group will run the last two Fridays of the month in July and August. Events for younger youth from 3 to 5 p.m., drop in from 5 to 7 p.m., and older youth from 7 to 10 p.m. Please contact Tess at 604-883-0024.

Put your best foot forward and take in the magnificent beauty of our Coast Mondays and Wednesdays with the Pender Harbour hiking club. Call 604-883-2930 to join them.

The Food Bank is open every second Monday from noon to 12:30 p.m. The next day will be July 27.

Drop in for summer family sports nights in Madeira Park. Families and visitors are invited to come on out and play outdoor volleyball or basketball on Monday nights at the MPES field from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bring a picnic if you like or just sit and enjoy watching. Younger kids can play at the park or in the playground. Let’s make this a great weekly event!

Summer pickleball is at PHHS gym. Some drop-in spots are available during the month of July and first week of August to come out and see what this fun sport is all about. Drop by the high school gym on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. $50 to register for full session, or try your luck for a $5 drop-in fee.

Come enjoy carpet bowling at the PHC Hall on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m.

July rambles are beginning at 8:30 a.m. to avoid the heat a bit.  July 30, the group will explore the Horse Poop Soup trail. Meet on Menacher, about 700 m up from the highway.

Artists, crafters, and other non-food vendors are invited to set up at the Alley of the Arts, part of the 12th annual Pender Harbour Show & Shine in Garden Bay Sunday, Aug. 9, for only $10. You’ll have to supply your own table and display fixtures, but it’s a great deal for this high-traffic event right beside Garden Bay Pub. Call Myrtle for more info, 604-883-0010 or email [email protected]

Sign up now for the Legion’s annual golf tournament Saturday, Aug. 22. Enjoy golf and dinner, fun, great prizes and delicious food for just $50. This is a modified Texas scramble for everyone, first timers to pros. Call 604-883-2235 for more info.
