The hot weather and high season has arrived on the Coast. Residents and visitors alike are living life to the fullest. The start of the season has brought tragedy with it. This past weekend, the air ambulance landed in Pender Harbour after catastrophic accidents. Please, everyone, drive safely. Thank you is not enough to say to our emergency, rescue and first responders: you are heroes.
PH Wildlife Society members out in the forests at Sakinaw Lake came upon a tragic site – a magnificent old growth Douglas fir had been slaughtered for no reason. “It was like finding a dead elephant” one member said.
The oceans and waterways are once again being ravaged by poaching: square crab traps, night fishing with lamps, digging shellfish and taking creatures too small and in illegal quantity. Keep vigilant when on the water and hiking. Our conservation officer services appreciate you reporting suspicious activities. Call the RAPP line at #7277 on your cell. Observe Record Report: your report can contribute to a fuller picture or reveal repeat violations, and it can be done anonymously.
Let’s treasure, respect and protect our precious paradise.
