The Pender Harbour 73rd May Day, themed Pirates of Pender, on Saturday, May 19, is the treasure chest of the Harbour's celebrations. The fun, games and festivities are endless and all day in downtown Madeira Park starting at 8 a.m. with the Kids (under 12) Fishing Derby, Fun Run and Lions’ Pancake Breakfast. The Big Parade will start at 11 a.m. with the crowning of the 73rd May Day Queen at 11:30 a.m. The Legion annual barbecue will be serving delicious grilled hamburgers and hot dogs behind the Community Hall. Saturday lunch special at the legion will be fish & chips. The Meat Draw starts at 4 p.m. with Skinny Jimmy entertaining following the draw.
Sunday the 17th Annual Attack of Danger Bay will have some of the world’s best competing for the Michael Crowe Danger Bay Rotary Cup. Take the shuttle round trip from The Oak Tree Market to the racetrack starting at 8 a.m.
The Harbour Gallery has been rehung with all new works for the 2018 summer season. The Gallery will be open May Day 11 a.m. to 4 pm. In June, the Gallery will open Saturdays, and then every day July and August.
Women’s Connection welcomes Wendy Humphreys Tebbut, ARMCM, education and specialized Kineisiology consultant and instructor May 22 presenting “How Re-emerging Primitive Reflexes can Negatively Affect our Health, Independence and Quality of Life in our Senior Years.” Wendy will demonstrate simple, effective activities and gentle ways of releasing tension, pain and stress.
The Community School with be offering a dog obedience class starting Thursday, May 24 and running for five weeks. Pre-registration is required. Please call 604-883-2826 to register and more info.
Harbourside Friendship will have a special visit from the youth of the community May 24. Meeting starts at 10:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon. Drop-in $10.
Saturday, May 26 award-winning Charlotte Diamond and her son Matt will perform a free family concert noon to 12:40 p.m. at the Chatelech Secondary School Theatre in Sechelt.
