Halloween excitement starts Saturday, Oct. 29, when the Pender Harbour Blues Society brings you Halloween Howl, the eighth annual dance and costume extravaganza featuring Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne at the Hall. Fantastic prizes for the best costumes. Tickets are at Java Docks, Strait Music and www.phblues.ca

Come celebrate Egmont’s favourite spooky holiday at the Egmont Community Hall on Halloween, Oct. 31 starting at 7:30 p.m. There will be games, hot dogs, prizes for kids and fireworks, rain or shine. For more details, call 604-883-1379.

Also on Halloween night, the Pender Harbour volunteer firefighters will put on a spectacular fireworks show at Millennium Park at 7:30 p.m. Buy your raffle tickets to support this great event.

Just in time for the winter months, Pender Harbour Seniors Initiative is announcing a new six-week program: Walking Tuesdays starting Nov. 1. Wear your runners and come walk with a group. It’s an indoor exercise program designed with walking-based movements to benefit all ages and fitness levels, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Drop in for $3. Wednesday join in the fun and carpet bowl from 1 to 3 p.m. Harbourside Friendship Nov. 3 will be a discussion of What’s On Your Mind starting at 10:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon for $10. Yoga Fridays start with mat and floor exercises, 9 to 10 a.m. followed by chair yoga, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. All the above activities are at the PH Community Hall.

Funtastics’ At The Hop performance bus trip to the Sechelt Activity Centre Nov. 6 departs from the PH Community Hall at 2 p.m. (show starts at 3 p.m.) $30 includes round trip on the Duck Bus and the show. For more information, contact Marlene at 604-883-9900.

Saturday, Nov. 5 is the 15th annual Pender Harbour Rotary Auction starting at 5 p.m. at the Legion. Tickets include tapas from 5 to 7 p.m. and are available from any Rotary member or at the Legion. Silent auction viewing is 5 to 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. for free admission. Live auction starts at 8 p.m.

Remembrance Day, Nov. 11, is fast approaching. Legion volunteers will be out starting Oct. 28 distributing poppies, which will also be available at most business. Wear a poppy – remember those who have fallen for our freedom, and help support veterans, seniors and your community. If you would like to help distribute poppies for an hour or two over the next two weekends, please contact the Pender Harbour Legion at 604-883-2235. 

The Legion’s meat draws on Saturdays start with the Early Bird at 2 p.m., main draw at 3 p.m. and final draw at 4 p.m. Play Chase the Ace and enjoy food from the kitchen, open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday’s Meat Draw main draw is at 1:30 p.m., final draw at 2 p.m. and play Catch the Queen. There are the same numbers of draws both days. Volunteer baked goodies for the bake table and receive a thank you of five strips of tickets. There is now a 10-foot screen for presentations, movies and Grey Cup.

The Pender Harbour Community School is offering a workshop on Grant Writing with facilitator Marg Penny. Learn the fine art of finding and applying for grants, Saturday Nov. 19, 1 to 4 p.m. at the School of Music. Register at 604-883-2826. Relax and de-stress at Yoga class in the Sarah Wray Hall Thursdays 1 to 2 p.m. Please bring a mat and water bottle.

Pender Harbour Music Society’s November concert will be presented by audience favourite Archie Fisher, Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at the School of Music. It’s not often that a musical legend comes to call, but Scottish singer/songwriter/music producer Fisher is all that and more. An unassuming man, his solo work and collaborations with Liam Clancey, Tommy Makem and Nova Scotia fiddler Garrett Rogers have placed him among the greats of the world folk music. This will be Fisher’s third visit to Pender Harbour. Tickets are available at Harbour Insurance, Sechelt Visitor Centre and penderharbourmusic.ca
