Flair on the Coast Cancer Support Group is holding its annual fundraiser on Saturday, May 7. Dance to ‘60s and ‘70s classic rock hits from local band Playback. Dinner will be provided by Tracey Le Nobel of Halfmoon Hearth. Door prizes, raffles and 50/50 draws are all part of this great evening. Tuesday, May 10 at 10 a.m. at the School of Music, Pender Harbour Women’s Connection presents Dr. Susan LaCombe to speak on: Grow Younger as You Age With Self-Regulation. Discover how regular maintenance and updates to your nervous system can reward your life with meaning, connection and greater chances for health.
May 10 is also a bus trip day to the Sunshine Coast Botanical Gardens including lunch as part of the week’s activities of the Seniors Initiative. Cost is $10 for the bus, plus lunch. Departure is 10 a.m. from downtown Madeira. Enjoy carpet bowling on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. Harbourside Friendship on Thursday is all about playing board games starting at 10:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon for $10.
Pender Harbour Music Society’s Coffee House on Friday, May 13 will be another evening of great entertainment. Come out and support local musicians Baili Clarke, Angie Beautiful, Bits of String (Kaia Nelson and Mark Lebbell) and Simon Paradis. Doors open at 7 p.m., music starts at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 14 the Pender Harbour Reading Centre is hosting a strawberry tea and author reading featuring local authors Betty Keller and Rosella Leslie at 1 p.m. at the School of Music as part of the Reading Centre’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Join the Pender Harbour Music Society for the perfect finale to an exceptional fall and winter program. Duo Rendezvous perform Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at the School of Music in Madeira Park. Passion, technical brilliance and intense musicality come wrapped in the fabulous package that is Duo Rendezvous. The audience will be treated to works by Bach, Falla, Sarasate, Jobim, Piazzolla and Monti, plus a little bossa nova, some tango and even Hungarian czardas. The Pender Harbour Garden Club will be meeting one week later than usual, on Monday, May 16 at 1 p.m. Tour Ron and Carla Knight’s rhododendron garden and hear a talk from Ron Knight about 10 hints on working smarter in the garden. See phgardenclub.ca for more.
