The Pender Harbour Community Garden located behind the Health Centre has garden plots available. Call the Health Centre at 604-883-2764 and your name will be added to the list. If your name is drawn, you will get a call in the first week of May. The community garden is a great way to get out, socialize, meet some new friends and grow your own food.
The Better at Home Program has been serving seniors in the Pender Harbour area for over two years now. This program helps seniors remain independent and live in their own homes longer by offering a variety of services. This is a program that depends strongly on volunteers. If you feel you have some time to help a senior by driving them to a medical appointment, taking them grocery shopping or just spending some time visiting them in their home, please call the program coordinator at 604-989-6171. I volunteer, and what a pleasure!
On April 26 at 10 a.m. at the P.H. School of Music, the Pender Harbour Women’s Connections welcome SASS who will share their joyful music. For nine years SASS has been a hard-working, self-directed part of the Pender Harbour Choir. They rehearse weekly and perform regularly.
Senior Initiative activities this week: Wednesday carpet bowling from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday Harbourside Friendship meeting at 10:30 a.m. with lunch for $10 served at noon. Both events are at the P.H. Community Hall.
Saturday April 30 is a fantastic day jam-packed with great events in the Harbour with April Tools at the Millennium Park (see www.apriltools.ca for a preview), Serendipity Spring Craft Fair and Community Club Plant Sale at the Hall and the Legion’s Giant Garage Sale. The drop-off times for the Legion’s sale will be from Tuesday, April 26 at 1 p.m. to Friday night closing. Please no electronics, hardcover books or clothes.
The Harbour Gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, April 30, May 7 and May 14, and Tuesdays May 3, 10 and 17. On display is Metamorphosis with guest artist Krista Maurer. The Gallery is a few steps up the stairs right beside all the action of April Tools.
