Pender Harbour & Egmont

Congratulations to Anne Clemence, iconic woman of Pender Harbour, on receiving the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award this past week in recognition for her volunteer work and enormous contributions to the Sunshine Coast.

This Friday, March 11, the Pender Harbour Music Society Coffee House at the School of Music welcomes to the stage Chelsea Charlton, guitarist, folk and blues singer; Renee Harper, vocalist, accompanied by Sasha Fassaert; Dawn Loverock, singer, songwriter, guitarist; and SASS, women’s vocal group, accompanied by Joy McLeod. Coffee and goodies will be available, $10 suggested donation at the door. Music Intima has been called one of Canada’s truly important choirs. This BC group has an international reputation for its sublime ensemble singing, made all the more impressive by the fact that they sing unaccompanied and without a conductor. Enjoy an afternoon with Music Intima, this Sunday, March 13, 2 p.m. at Pender Harbour School of Music. The P.H. Aquatic and Fitness facility will be open regular scheduled hours during spring break, March 14 to 29. All drop-in fitness programs will run as usual. The facility will be closed Good Friday, March 25 and Easter Monday.

Monday, March 14 is Pender Harbour Garden Club’s first meeting of the year, featuring Dave Stiles of Sunshine Coast Wildlife discussing the shoreline naturalization work being done on the Coast. Everyone is welcome to the Pender Harbour School of Music, 1 p.m.

Pender Harbour Com-munity School is offering these activities: Spring Break Day Camp, March 15 to 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the pool for ages five to 12. Cost is $25 per day for games, crafts, swimming and more! Call the pool to register. Income tax preparation volunteers will be available Tuesdays in March and April at the Community School, 9 a.m. to noon for individual tax preparation for eligible people.

Seniors Initiative will hit the carpet bowling lanes from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16. On Thursday Harbourside Friendship welcomes HUGS Ukulele Group at 10:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon for $10. Friday is yoga day for 55-plus from 9 to 10 a.m. and chair yoga from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Drop in fee is $2.

The Madeira Park Legion will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday, March 17 from 4 p.m. on with live music from Skinny Jimmy and the Preachers, Irish stew, burgers, fries, wings and rings. Friday, March 18, Quiz Night will be contributing proceeds to the Food Bank. Saturday, March 19 will be the ham/turkey meat draw and pie auction extravaganza.

Join Barrie Farrell for a short reading and book signing for his new book Boats in My Blood: A Life in Boat Building (Harbour Publishing, $24.95), at Pender Harbour’s School of Music, on Saturday, March 19, 3 to 5 p.m. Complimentary food and refreshments will be served, admission is free, and the event is wheelchair accessible. Books will be for sale from the EarthFair Store.

The Pender Harbour Youth Group meets the last two Fridays of the month at the Community Hall. On March 25 there will be a special double feature starting at 3 p.m. Event posters will be up at the elementary and secondary schools before spring break. Parent volunteers are always welcome.
