The Pender Harbour adult choir, children's choir and student band present the Christmas concert and Light the Lights ceremony this Sunday, Dec. 5, 6 p.m. at the community hall. Listen to great music and munch on delicious Christmas goodies; then go outside and drink hot chocolate under the sparkling lights.

The Community Club has timed this event so as not to conflict with the celebration of Robi Petraschuk's life, to be held earlier in the afternoon at the Legion.

The concert and ceremonies is always a large event, enjoyed by a broad spectrum of the community. A lot of work goes into preparing for it and assistance with the set up would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in helping out email [email protected], [email protected] or call Miss Sunny at 604-883-2715.

We have seen a number of fine Christmas sales at the community hall in recent weeks. That will culminate with Community Club's own Christmas craft fair and market on Saturday, Dec. 11. There will be a home-baking table (a real lifesaver at this time of year), jams, Avon, jewellery, candles and all kinds of other gift items.

For more information contact Muriel at 604-883-2609.

Award-winning Sunshine Coast illustrator Kim La Fave will be signing copies of his new children's book, Fishing with Gubby (with Gary Kent), on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Blue Waters Book Co. in the Madeira Park Plaza. For more information, phone Blue Waters Book Co. at 604-883-9006.

The Legion invites you to join in the fun at its New Years' Eve Party. On the menu is lasagna, prime rib, Yorkshire pudding, veggies and a delicious dessert. Bring a gift under $10 for the secret Santa game. Tickets are only $20 each, available now from the Legion bar.

Need to know more? Call the Legion at 604-883-2235.

The Pender Harbour Power & Sail Squadron is now taking bookings for its boating course, beginning Jan. 10, running for 12 consecutive Monday evenings. The 24 boating subjects include navigation, seamanship, charting, plotting, weather, rope, lines and knots, aids to navigation, rules and regulations. Everyone now needs the PCOC card to operate a pleasure craft. At the end of the course, the

Canadian Power Squadron instructors will conduct the PCOC and the more in-depth CPS boating examinations. When you have successfully completed these you will have earned your Canadian Coast Guard Pleasure Craft Operator Card. You will also be a safer, more informed boater. Many insurance companies offer premium discounts to those who pass this course. For details and registration please contact David Pearson at [email protected] or call 604-883-9313.
