Harbour-Egmont Highlights: Partake in the Storybook Stroll in Madeira Park next week

Here's what's happening in Pender Harbour and Egmont
Cut out of Little Red Riding Hood in the woods

Feeling a bit of cabin fever? The Legion has many opportunities for a cure, getting out for good times and good food, safely. The popular Sunday brunch continues 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with an added attraction of a mini meat draw noon to 2 p.m., with a draw every 15 minutes. Throughout the week The Legion is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday and Friday, lunch on Saturdays followed by the Meat Draw at 3 p.m. Friday night. Eddy Edrik, the funny talented Brit,  entertains 6 to 9 p.m. More good news, more live music may be returning sometime in February. Folks, we are incredibly lucky to have a vibrant Legion in our community kept alive by a team of devoted, hardworking volunteers so come out, enjoy, and support this special place.

Thanks to Rotary funding through its 50/50 draw and others who donated towards the renovation of our public washrooms at the visitors centre. The work is underway. Please be advised that just one washroom is open at this time.

Have you bought your lucky 50/50 tickets this month? Rotary will generously donate the proceeds from January ticket sales to the care of our Pender Harbour Community Hall. The basic expenses have skyrocketed, along with the cost of repairs and improvements. Please, buy your tickets today and any day you feel Lady Luck is in your corner at penderharbourrotary.rafflenexus.com or Google Pender Harbour Rotary Raffle or visit their Facebook page.

Storybook Stroll in Madeira Park is under way Jan. 23 to 30 as part of BC Family Literacy Week and Canada Literacy Day Jan. 27. Look for pages at various locations to play along with ”We All Play” by Julie Flett, a story of the interconnectedness of nature and the wonder of play. Visit Pender Harbour Community School for the entry form and more information. Drop off your completed entry form by Jan. 30 to win a prize.

The Pender Harbour and District Wildlife Society will hold their AGM Tuesday, Feb. 15, 7 p.m. via Zoom. The PHDWS is always looking for new members to join their board. Time to renew your membership and welcome to all new members. Memberships are: single one year $20, family one year $25, youth one year $10 or pay now for three years. Send cheque to Pender Harbour Wildlife Society, 5466 Jervis Inlet Road, Madeira Park B.C. V0N 2H4 or etransfer to [email protected]. Note single/family/youth in message box. Visit the PHDWS Facebook page for more info.

Thank you, my readers, and friends, especially those folks in Palm Springs for your heartwarming responses to last week’s column in honour of Betty White. Inspired by Betty, the animal rescue organizations miracle workers, my own furkids and your kind comments, I donated to 12 B.C. rescue organizations, including those here on the Coast. On what would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday, Jan. 17, the Betty White Challenge raised incredible amounts of money as people throughout Canada donated to those heroic crusaders of animal advocacy who provide life changing, lifesaving work for sweet souls in need. Best birthday celebration ever!
