Tonight, July 8, the Pender Harbour Music Society Coffee House at the School of Music welcomes a trio of fine local performers, singer/songwriter Mark Petersen, “Enns of the Earth” – father and son duo Ryan and Oscar Enns and Katrina Bishop’s Westerly Acappella Group. Doors open at 7 p.m. Music at 7:30 p.m. $10 minimum suggested donation at the door.
Joe Stanton, the Coast’s own award-winning finger style guitarist, singer songwriter will be at the Backeddy, tomorrow, July 9, and all Saturdays this month at 4 p.m. Come treat yourselves to outstanding music, fine food and breathtaking views.
The Harbour Gallery, now open every day 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is a must visit for locals and tourists. Located up the lane by Serendipity Day Care, clustered in the old forestry buildings with the School of Music, and the reading centre, this beautiful gallery showcases the work of our exceptionally talented local artists. Purchase a creation of any size from cards to full-sized paintings and stained glass. There is so much to take in. My recent visit with the lovely artist in house Liz Summerfield was so enjoyable, two and a half hours vaporized. So, take some time and come to this harbour treasure.
Good news from Madeira Park Legion! They are now open Tuesdays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Non members welcome.
The StrongStart Summer Reading Program for kids is happening now through to Aug. 9. Families with kids up to age five can join the fun in the back room of the reading centre for a read-aloud story time Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This is a volunteer-run program and free to attend. No registration needed. For kids 12 and younger, look for the Wonder Wheels mobile library at Madeira Park Elementary starting at 9:30 a.m. each Wednesday. Come borrow some fun books and a free treat to beat the heat.
FibreWorks Studio and Gallery exhibit “Mix it UP” is on display now through to July 31 at the Yurts. “Slow Sundays” connects our community through fibre arts. This is a free, drop-in social circle led by individuals bringing their own crafting/hand project Sundays. No registration. Everyone is welcome and bring your project of choice to work on. Noon to 4 p.m.
Harbourside Friendships, Thursday, July 14, invites you to come share your favourite hobby, craft and or art at the gathering 10:30 a.m. at the hall.
Carpet Bowl continues Wednesdays, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hall for $3 drop in. No chair yoga this month but do keep practicing and stay active!
Not long until the live music and fans in their boats fill Gunboat Bay. Saturday, July 23 is the date for Gunboat Bay Blues Concert when the Mellquist family once again generously hosts an evening of music with the Peter Van Deursen Band starting at 5 p.m. For more info contact [email protected]
Thanks to all the vendors, Harbour Gallery, and Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society and all who came to visit and shop, for making the return of Madeira Market July 2 a wonderful success.
