Harbour-Egmont Highlights: EarthFair Store now open at sunny new premises

Also, Harbourside Friendships visiting Egmont Thrift Store
Pender Harbour

Summertime is here and the lovely EarthFair Store is now open Monday to Saturday at their new, bigger, brighter premises across from the Pender Harbour Community Hall. Look for the sunny yellow awnings and you are there. The selection of books is outstanding, as are the gift items from talented local artisans. Come find your favourite summer read. Mine is Grant Lawrence’s Return To Solitude more Desolation Sound Adventures. You may want to start with his first best-selling book Adventures In Solitude.

Each week on my partner’s day off, we drive to Egmont and treat ourselves to a shop at the Thrift Store and a fine, leisurely lunch at the Backeddy. This past Monday we visited the Egmont Heritage Centre, 6671 Egmont Road across from the provincial park. The Skookumchuck Heritage Society maintains the centre that houses an extensive collection of logging and fishing equipment and antiques from the area. The immaculate displays, all with detailed history will take you on a trip back in time. You’ll enjoy the journey. Best history lesson ever!  Info at 604-883-994 and www.egmontheritagecentre.com

Bathgate’s General Store at the government dock has  almost anything you could possibly need. Now open seven days a week 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Harbourside Friendships are going on a road trip Thursday, July 21 to Egmont. First stop, the delightful Egmont Thrift Store. Housed in the heritage community hall, this amazing store is full of treasures cared for by hardworking volunteers, purchases are paid for by cash donation. Lunch will be at the Backeddy. If you prefer, you can bring your lunch and sit outside at the picnic tables under umbrellas on the lawn. Call Patti at 604-741-8413 to attend and for carpool arrangements.

Summertime Saturdays are perfect for live music. In the afternoon, you will find the charming Brit Eddy Edrik at John Henry’s 2 to 5 p.m. Then head up to The Backeddy where the fantastic singer-songwriter Jim Foster will perform from 5 to 8 p.m. this Saturday. Treat yourselves to outstanding music, delicious food, beverages, and breathtaking views.

Madeira Park Legion is open Tuesdays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Grasshopper is closed Tuesdays, except for the beer and wine store. Nice to have another place to go for lunch and dinner on Tuesdays. Non-members welcome.

Get out those charts, tide table, and plot your course for Gunboat Bay Saturday July 23 when the Mellquist family once again brings the live music of Peter Van Deursen Band to the bay starting at 5 p.m. For more info contact [email protected]
