Quickly becoming recognized for leading edge stage performances and visual art exhibitions, the 2014 Sechelt Arts Festival launches another premiere performance event this Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Raven’s Cry Theatre.

Two years in the making, Gordon Halloran’s production of Body of Light will come to life on stage with an eclectic cast of actors, dancers, and video vignettes chronicling the mysteries and transformational nature of physical and spiritual “healing.”  Provocative, ironic and inspirational, this highly anticipated event features Gerardo Avila, Katherine Denham, Maggie Guzzi, Caitlin Hicks, Jean Pierre Makosso and Yvette Makosso. Advance price tickets for Body of Light available at www.sechel tartsfestival.com or at the door.

If you come by the theatre pre-show, visit the Totem Tails heritage exhibit and take part in the community salmon barbecue, being hosted by the Sechelt Nation located out front of the Tems Swiya Museum and Ravens Cry Theatre from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Festival will also host Passion for Piano on Saturday at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre with two free workshops (accordion primer, sax reading clinic) and two performances including the premiere multi-media concert, Earth and Sky — Chasing the Spirit of Duende featuring pianist Katherine Hume and composer Paul Alexander at 4 p.m.

Another “not to miss” event is this Sunday’s Clowning Around workshop and performance-based Family Day at the Arts Centre.

This free kid-friendly event begins with Clown Boot Camp at 10 a.m., followed by performances with Avila, Lippy (Errol Lipshitz), Tracy Lloyd and Truly Wigglebottoms (Jill Conway). You’ve seen them hamming it up at the parades, now you can laugh and learn from them in person. And everyone gets to go home with a smile on their face and a red clown nose!

Two emerging artist concerts featuring young and talented coast musicians will wrap up the festival weekend performance schedule including a singer/songwriter Emerging Sound concert tonight, Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at The Sound in Sechelt. On Saturday, pianists Emily Picard, Morganne Woolley and Madeline Young will play the classics at 1 p.m. at the Arts Centre.
