Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week as we enjoyed some sunny days along with the usual wind and rain.

Warren Hansen, operations manager with the Sunshine Coast Community Forest Ltd., shared a note regarding harvesting operations near Trout Lake. “On behalf of Sunshine Coast Community Forest Ltd., we are providing notice to all recreational users recreating around the Trout Lake, Locomotive and Big Tree Recreation Area trail systems.” Harvesting operations will occur from Feb. 8 to March 31, seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in vicinity of these areas. The block is located away from any known trail systems but expect heavy industrial traffic on the first two kilometres of the road leading to the Big Tree Recreation Area. The Halfmoon Carlson Branch 3 (locally referred to as the “Big Tree Road”) will remain open to the public, and signs will be posted to advise the users of the road to beware of heavy industrial traffic on the road.

Pickleball is alive and well in Halfmoon Bay! Due to the overwhelming response for a second night of play, Monday nights have been added. Come join the fun on Monday and Thursday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School at 8086 Northwood Rd. Players are reminded to ensure their Halfmoon Bay Community Association (HBCA) membership is current as HBCA provides insurance for pickleball play at the school.

The Sunshine Coast Marine Rescue Society and Batch 44 are hosting an amazing fundraising event on Thursday, Feb. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $30/person and can be purchased online at rcmsar12.org. Visit their website for information about the silent auction which begins on Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 23. Tickets include a burger and beer/wine and entry for a chance to win a door prize. RCMSAR 12 is a group of dedicated volunteers committed to providing lifesaving services in marine emergencies. Volunteers train year-round to ensure they are ready to respond to an average of 30 incidents per year on the central Sunshine Coast. Fifteen dollars from every ticket purchased will go to RCMSAR12. Batch 44 is located in Sechelt at 5559 Wharf Ave. At the time of writing this column earlier this week, there were only 25 of the 80 tickets remaining. Looks like this will be a sold-out event. Awesome community support!

Don’t forget about the upcoming Halfmoon Bay Elementary School – Kids Stuff Mega Sale on Saturday, March 4. To register as a vendor, go to halfmoon-bay.ca/kids-stuff-mega-sale on the HBCA website or send an email to Karyn Henwood at info@halfmoon-bay.ca. Shoppers entry fee is $2/person, kids younger than 16 are free. Doors open at 10 a.m., bring your own shopping bag. All proceeds will go towards HBCA and PAC programs and events.
