Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the SCH Auxiliary would like to thank the local businesses, participants and the wonderful volunteers at their recent Fabulous Bridge Luncheon, a very successful fundraiser. Their next fundraiser is a bake, craft and plant sale being held at Trail Bay Mall on May 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They invite the community to come out and support this biannual sale. The next meeting of the Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary is May 14 at Coopers Green at 9:45 a.m. and visitors and guests are welcome.

It’s Broom Busting week. With the late spring, the Scotch broom is just starting to flower and by the week of May 7 to 11 it should be easy to spot. The HMB Citizens Association performs a wonderful service to tackle this invasive plant. They are looking for volunteers to help combat the plant in Halfmoon Bay. They will be at Welcome Woods on Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m. to noon; meet at the Welcome Woods Store. Please bring loppers and gloves, sunscreen and bug spray. Mary Beth Knechtel will map out a plan of attack. Of course, you can bust broom anytime you spot it on your rambles. To find out more, contact Knechtel at [email protected]

Sargeant Bay Society announced they have the following event coming up: Birding on the Berm, May 19 with Tony Greenfield. Meet at Sargeant Bay parking lot at 9 a.m.

The dance party is coming up, May 26. Doors open a 7 p.m., music 7:30 p.m. This will be a fantastic fun night sponsored by Halfmoon Bay Community Association. Monty Montego and the Rocksteady Crew will bring the tunes that could be described as pre-reggae music from Jamaica or even as Motown meets reggae. It’s definitely dance music.

Tickets now on sale at HMB General Store, Welcome Woods Market and Pastimes.

Pickleball is Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School on Northwood Road. Paddles and balls are supplied. Cost is $3, new members are free the first night. Join the fun and good exercise. For more information email [email protected], or Tim Dayton [email protected]. Both players and spectators are invited. All skill levels are welcome.

A special invitation is extended to all residents to a family social event, the Halfmoon Bay family dance. Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 7. This will be an event for the whole family, with dance lessons for parents and kids leading up to the event. If you are interested in being on the committee to help out and make this first dance a huge success, please contact Wendy at [email protected]. Sponsored by Halfmoon Bay Elementary School and Halfmoon Bay Community Association.
