Broom Busting Week is upon us.

With the late spring, the Scotch broom is just starting to flower and by the week of May 7 to 11 it should be easy to spot. The Halfmoon Bay Citizens Association performs a wonderful service to tackle this invasive plant. They are looking for volunteers to help combat the plant in Halfmoon Bay. They will be at Redrooffs Road and Connor Park on Wednesday, May 9, and tackle Welcome Woods on Saturday, May 12. Plan for 10 to 12 noon on both days. Wednesday they will meet at Coopers Green picnic table and on Saturday at the Welcome Woods Store picnic table. Please bring your loppers and gloves, sunscreen and bug spray. Mary Beth Knechtel will map out a plan of attack and bring copies. Of course, you can bust broom anytime you spot it on your rambles. To find out more email [email protected]

The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary would like to thank the local businesses and participants of our recent Fabulous Bridge Luncheon. This was a very successful fundraiser for which we also thank our wonderful volunteers who did a great job. Our next fundraiser is our Bake/Craft & Plant Sale being held at Trail Bay Mall on May 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We invite the community to come out and support our bi-annual sale. The next meeting of the Auxiliary’s Halfmoon Bay Branch is May 14 at Coopers Green at 9:45 a.m. and visitors and guests are welcome.

Dance Party on May 26 – doors at 7, music at 7:30. This will be a fantastic fun night sponsored by Halfmoon Bay Community Association (HBCoA) with Monty Montego and the Rocksteady Crew. The genre is Jamaican rocksteady music. Tickets now on sale at HMB General Store, Welcome Woods Market and Pastimes.

A special invitation is extended to all residents to a family social event, the Halfmoon Bay family dance. Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 7. This will be an event for the whole family, with dance lessons for parents and kids leading up to the event. If you are interested in being on the committee to help out and make this first dance a huge success, please contact Wendy at [email protected]. Sponsored by Halfmoon Bay Elementary School and HBCoA.

To have your say at the bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at [email protected] or 604-885-5034.
