Have just returned from a vacation from the eastern provinces. How wonderful it is in paradise on the Sunshine Coast. We left daffodils & tulips at the beginning of April to be met with –10 C and snow in Toronto.

The Hospital Auxiliary bake sale proceeds were $2,297.10. They wish to thank everyone for coming out and supporting them.
There is only one Wednesday left (May 25) until the end of the season for pickleball; drop in and play the fastest growing sport in North America. Pickleball is played at the Halfmoon Bay Community School gym, Northwood Road. Plan to arrive by 7 p.m. for registration. Dress appropriately (runners & workout gear). All other equipment (racquets and balls) provided. Cost is $3 per session. There are three courts, one dedicated to beginners with instruction provided, the other two follow the “level play” format set out by the Sunshine Coast Pickleball Association. Sargeant Bay Society is having their Birding on the Berm. Once again Tony Greenfield will lead this annual welcome-to-spring birding event on Sunday, May 22. This event was well attended last year and all present continued to increase their knowledge of the birdlife in the Park. Meet at 9 at the main parking lot in Sargeant Bay Provincial Park.
The SCRD is encouraging people to come out to their future community dialogue sessions. Chief administrative officer Janette Loveys says they have eight scheduled dates and they’ll have several people there to answer people’s questions and concerns. Area B – Halfmoon Bay will be at Coopers Green Park, May 26 at 7 p.m.
SCRD chair and HMB director Garry Nohr will make himself available Tuesdays at 10 a.m. at the Welcome Woods Market and at 10 a.m. on Fridays at the Halfmoon Bay Café.
Have you volunteered at HMB Community School this year? They have amazing parents and community members that help them with everything from volunteer reading to gardening and recycling. If this is of interest please join them for a Volunteer Celebration Tea, Wednesday May 25, 1-2 p.m. in the school library.
This year is the 50th anniversary of the HMB Country Fair! In order to best celebrate this momentous occasion there is a 50th Anniversary Country Fair committee. I have volunteered to be the Fair coordinator. You are invited to join us with your finest ideas and memories. The Fair date is set for July 9/10.
