Gumboot Nation: Apologies to Herman

'These things do not happen by accident, the many come together to do their part and create a beauty to behold, and we are but a small, but vital part of it. Some do little, some do much, just by showing up we become a portion of the charm.'
2021 Creek Daze-3
A succession of Sunshine Coast bands played all day long at the 2021 Creek Daze.

Call me Creeker. Some years ago — never mind how long precisely — having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me in town, I thought I would sail about a little and see the woody part of the world. And so, I found this great community and revelled in it.

This weekend, the Creek will be on display in all its glory, from the artists to politics, the fashion and music, the depth and breadth of what we have here in our place called home. Creek Daze has come.

These things do not happen by accident, the many come together to do their part and create a beauty to behold, and we are but a small, but vital part of it. Some do little, some do much, just by showing up we become a portion of the charm.

Your Community Association does such an incredible service to this place, overseeing our collective assets, (the hall, library and gazebo) and spearheading community building events (Creek Daze, Wednesday Market, Christmas Dinner and Craft Fair at the Hall, Slow Sundays, etc.) I want to sing the gratitude of the entire Area “D” out to Sarah and Karen, Tara, Catherine, Lara and Cory, Artine, Yvonne, and a big hairy shout out to past president Scott. Every now and then we need to remember who gets things done around here.

Nuts and bolts of the day (Sunday, Aug. 14) are as follows; (see last week’s column or search Creek Daze on the Facebook thing for greater details, or better yet, just show up and be pleasantly surprised!)

Kundalini yoga courtesy of Elin, at Library Park (9 to 10:15 a.m., bring your own mat), the legendary book sale at the Library (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), the “show me what you got” Higgledy Piggledy Parade, (gathering at the elementary school 10:30 a.m. for an 11:11 a.m. start), then down to the music and vendors at the Mandala and pier from 11:30 a.m., wrapping up at 6 p.m. The mix of people we shall see is what makes this place what it is: old friends, new friends, those who have been here for generations, and those who have just arrived. We will feel the love of our home grow a little this Sunday. See you there.

Other things in the Creek to warm you up include some fabulous nights at our little Legion. On Friday night, Aug. 12, we have Friday Night Party! feat. Poppa Greg (7 p.m.) and DJ Sam Pulpo (10 p.m.) Members $5, Guests of Members $10. A free event on Saturday is DJ Coulter Prestage / Summer Heat, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Wednesday night is Open Mic Night and the 18th is Thursday Jazz! Dinner Show Karen Graves. (Members free with advance reservation, the fee will be discounted from your bill, bring your receipt!) You can get tickets at the door, $8 members / $15 guests.

Dean in the kitchen serves great food at a great price from 5 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday.
