Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following Feb. 15 to 21.

Overnight on Feb. 16, a suspect gained entry to a business in the 5600 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, through a side door and stole several packages of frozen food and two large commercial sized tubes of ham. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2022-1063.

Overnight on Feb. 15, a suspect, or suspects, stole barbeque propane tanks from addresses in the 5700 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt.

On Feb. 15, a resident in the 600 block of Farnham Road, Gibsons, reported the theft of a lime green and blue Rocky Mountain Soul ten-speed mountain bike with a grey chain lock on it, which had been stored in the backyard. A witness reported seeing the suspect leaving the area with the bike. The male suspect is described as a 30-something Caucasian male who was wearing sunglasses, grey hoodie, floral patterned scarf, jeans and running shoes. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2022-1029.

On Feb. 15, a suspect stole a dinghy from the public dock in the 600 block of School Road, Gibsons. The theft was caught on security camera footage and the suspect has been identified. Police are attempting to locate the suspect and dinghy.

Impaired driver

On Feb. 18, police attended a single-vehicle incident involving a possible impaired driver on Highway 101 near McCullough Road, Sechelt, after the vehicle was witnessed driving into the westbound side ditch. The lone occupant and driver, who was unhurt, advised that she’d attempted to evade colliding into the vehicle which had stopped suddenly in front of her to make a left turn off the highway, and gone into the ditch. Police noted the driver was exhibiting signs of possible intoxication from alcohol and gave her a roadside alcohol screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for thirty days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.

On Feb. 18, a witness reported a possible impaired driver leaving a business in the 1000 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. Police located the driver and vehicle parked on a walkway nearby and noted the lone occupant and driver exhibiting signs of possible intoxication from alcohol. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test and after two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.

Break and enter

Overnight on Feb.19, a suspect or suspects gained entry to a storage locker at a business in the 5500 block of Sechelt Inlet Road, Sechelt, and stole a number of items including a Stihl chainsaw, an Echo leaf blower, and two Stihl cut-off saws with concrete blades. Police are reviewing surveillance camera footage. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2022-1140.

Collision

On Feb. 21, police attended a single vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Trout Lake Road, Halfmoon Bay, after Emergency Health Services reported a vehicle had collided into a telephone pole. It appears the vehicle drove straight off the road into the ditch and struck the pole with enough force to break it at the base. The lone occupant and driver, who was not impaired, advised that when he’d pulled out from Redrooffs Road, he also tried to adjust his headrest and lost control of the vehicle. The driver was taken to Sechelt Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and his vehicle was towed. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Found property

On Feb. 15, a safe found in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2022-1025.
