Green waste as resource event slated in Langdale

Transition Streets Project

A group of neighbours in Langdale, brought together by the Transition Streets Project, is holding a Langdale community event Saturday, April 23, just in time for Earth Day.

The Green Waste as a Resource communication and education event will bring Langdale neighbours together to share thoughts, information, and resources which will help to keep the neigbourhood clean, ecologically viable, and increase the value and richness of the land and community. They are putting to use some funding from the SCRD Waste Reduction Initiatives Program.

The event will be held from 1 to 3:30 in the Langdale school gym with a two-hour Huegel Culture composting workshop to follow just two blocks away. Notables present are Andrew Bridle, SCRD, with resource and information table, Michelle Evelyn, who will provide a conservation presentation, and Leonie Croy with Transition Sunshine Coast Canada Initiative. Evelyn’s work has always focused on balancing the needs of humans and wildlife. She will discuss the negative impacts that dumping green waste in natural areas can have on local ecosystems and wildlife species, as well as the Sunshine Coast Wildlife Project’s Stewardship Program and how community members can help local species at risk by maintaining and enhancing habitat for wildlife on their land.

This is all provided free of charge and all who are part of the Langdale community are welcomed and encouraged to come. Light refreshments are provided if you bring a mug; it’s Earth Day!
