Get volunteer help with your taxes

The community volunteer income tax program is sponsored nationally by the Canadian Revenue Agency and locally by the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.

Volunteers are trained to assist low-income seniors, individuals and families in preparing their income tax returns and operates from March 1 to April 30.

Clients must earn under $29,000 per year individually or under $39,000 for a family. Investment income must be less than $1,200 and clients cannot be self-employed in a business or a profession.

Clients can drop off all their tax information including T-slips and fill out a form at the following three locations: VCH Home Care office, 5630 Inlet Ave. in Sechelt, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; VCH Health Unit, 494 South Fletcher in Gibsons,Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The second option is tax clinics where volunteers will complete your tax returns while you wait. Clinics will operate at the Seniors Centre in Sechelt on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (call 604-885-3513 or 604-885-8910 for an appointment) and at the VCH Home Care Office in Sechelt on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (call 604-741-0726 to make an appointment).
