Gala of Stars will be a night to remember

A gala event in support of the Sunshine Coast Special Olympics is a mere month away, and your support is needed to make it a successful evening.

A gala event in support of the Sunshine Coast Special Olympics is a mere month away, and your support is needed to make it a successful evening.

The Gala of Stars is set for Saturday night, May 28, at the Sechelt Seniors Centre and will be a first-class event featuring a sit down dinner prepared and served by top notch hospitality professionals, as well as live music, entertainment, silent auction and a live auction led by local artist and auctioneer Ed Hill.

Among all the festivities, some of the Coast athletes will mix with the guests and contribute to the success of the evening. For one of the athletes, this star-like atmosphere will have extra special meaning, as Stephanie Rogers has been selected as only one of three B.C. swim athletes to participate in the July 2011 Special Olympics in Athens, Greece. Her dedication and perseverance as well as the tremendous support of her parents and coaches deserve to be recognized and will most certainly be one of many highlights of the evening.

Event co-ordinator Paul Lith has assembled a long list of supportive companies and individuals who are working extremely hard to help make this event a first-class affair. Many of his contacts in the hospitality business are lending a hand to ensure guests will also be treated as stars, and in return, they will get a superb dinner, professionally served, be entertained by local and nationally acclaimed entertainers, and have the opportunity to bid on a variety of valuable packages and items ranging from attractive works of art to accommodation in some of Vancouver's first class hotels.

People can also support this drive by donating cash or a cheque, in any amount. Any cash donation over $20 will generate a tax receipt and a big "thank you."

For ticket information and/or to offer further support to this event, contact Sunshine Coast Special Olympics co-ordinator Iris McEwen at 604-886-6122 or email [email protected] or Lith at 604-885-7307 or email [email protected].
