The annual Fall FunFest is continuing the tradition, with an upgrade this year. The grad class of 2014 at Elphinstone Secondary School is exited to host this year's event on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
The event was created to honour students Hanna Anderson and Trina Borley who were killed in a tragic car accident in July of 2006.
"In true Sunshine Coast spirit, our community pulled together and were a part of an event that honoured these two and raised money for scholarships in their names," said teacher/organizer Sarah Mani. "Now, seven years later, the event is something that people both young and old look forward to."
The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with the students versus teachers softball game at Ryan Dempster field. Then the festivities move to the field behind the school for games, raffles and food. There is everything from bouncy castles, mini golf, hoop shoot, fish tank and fortune telling to dunking teachers after they get pied, and so much more!
Now here is where the upgrade comes in. At 7:30, after raffle prizes are drawn, the grad class is helping host the twice-delayed Movie in the Park event by showing The Croods on the upper field.
"It is a perfect partnership," Mani said. "Our theme that we have adopted is kids helping kids, as the proceeds are going mainly to KidSport. The raffle and T-shirt sales will help out Elphi athletics, and the food and all the events on the field will go to kids from Egmont to Langdale -kids who otherwise could not afford to play in sports of all kinds.
"We know it is a school night, but cannot wait to see our community out and supporting a great cause," Mani said.
