The next meeting of the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society will provide some insight into whales, dolphins and sea turtles.
Caitlin Birdsall will present an illustrated lecture on the world of wild whales, dolphins, porpoises and sea turtles that inhabit the B.C. waters. Discover which species are most commonly spotted off the Sunshine Coast, their unique natural histories and the threats they face. Coastal citizens can participate in stewardship and research of these creatures by reporting sightings to the B.C. Cetacean Sightings Network.
The meeting is set for Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt.
Birdsall has a BSc in wildlife biology from the University of Northern B.C. and is a certified heritage interpreter. She has worked as a field assistant, naturalist and environmental educator throughout B.C. and Australia. Currently she is an educator and biologist focusing on marine conservation issues in B.C. and is the co-ordinator of the B.C. Cetacean Sightings Network, sponsored by the Vancouver Aquarium. The Network collects sightings of whales, dolphins, porpoises and sea turtles in B.C. to understand better the occurrence and distribution of these species.
